Origin Playstyle

Become one with the night as the Phantom. You trade an early game struggle for the chance at huge late game potential. You specialize in exploration and uncovering secrets across the realm.

Like with other major origins, the phantom introduces an environmental hazard - The sun is a deadly laser. And unlike mobs, wearing protective headgear will not save you from its shining rays. Moving around in the daytime will be extremely treacherous, as you will be required to carry food at all times in order to mitigate burning while invisible. You can also mitigate burning by staying in a water source, though this will become cumbersome if you try to carry around a bucket of water.

You gain the ability to phase through blocks as well. You will be able to traverse blocks on a single Y level plane, and jump or descend levels. While traversing the "inside", your vision will be heavily reduced, but you will be able to determine what is on the other side of most barriers, including in cave systems. You will be required to be in the phased state while in direct sunlight, however you can also use it temporarily to seek shelter. However, if you run out of enough hunger points to sprint, you will immediately phase back into physical form. This means that staying inside blocks for too long is dangerous, as you will start to suffocate if you become visible while phasing through them.

When you begin the game, your best option is to stay within biomes of dense cover, such as jungles or heavy forests. Other hostile mobs will most likely be active in these biomes as well, however you will have a much easier time remaining undetected during phantom form, and in case you run out of hunger the cover will protect you from the sun. To obtain food, consider ranching animals, as they do not require sunlight to breed. Other players may be able to assist you if they are feeling generous enough; Do not forget the favors they provide you. You may consider building a home in a cave or digging one out of the ground.

Night time will be your time. Don't forget to occasionally hit the bed, as you are still vulnerable to your own phantom attacks, thanks to your half-human nature. Other players may want to sleep away the night, however you must communicate to them when this is a bad idea and you want to go exploring (don't worry, they can deal with a small inconvenience of reduced visibility. When you explore dungeons, use your phantom form to find in-built secrets, as several hidden blocks and traps may be around every corner. While it may be very tempting to blitz a dungeon by staying in the walls, remember that you are still hungrier when phasing, and mobs will still attack you if alerted.

Like the Blaze origin, you are also very powerful in the Nether. There is no sunlight here, meaning you are free to traverse the wasteland to your own content. There are also plenty of dungeons for you to investigate. But the nether is also host to a range of great threats, and your reduced hit points will make your life more difficult without extreme protection.

The same is also true in the End. Once you obtain Elytra wings and a source of propulsion, you will hit your spike in potential. Phantoms are best with high mobility, as your wings will be the only giveaway of your presence while phasing (unless you wear armor or hold an item). This ultimately means that you will excel in exploring environments like the End. In the late game for your convenience, consider setting up a base or permanent home in the End, which is now a livable environment thanks to the improvements from BetterEnd.

Overall, the Phantom excels at traversal of planes without sunshine. Having a constant supply of food will be critical, and you will achieve the peak of your power after obtaining Elytra. Consider playing this Origin if you enjoy nightscapes, exploring dangerous areas, and want to set up a home in either the Nether or End.
