Origin Playstyle
Ideally the person who picks this origin should be okay with spawning in a difficult location as a survivalist and scavenger. Your reward for playing this will be lava and poison resistance which is very powerful. Surviving in the Nether requires more ingenuity than normal along with an fairly good understanding of Minecraft's mechanics/recipes. You ideally do not want to be someone who is interested in going after ocean monuments or water related things since you take damage from water, which is an extreme negative in the overworld even making rain dangerous. You also should not be annoyed by your default spawn location being in the Nether without a bed as this is intended.
Better Nether mod does improve your odds in the Nether thanks to a variety of new ores, therefor it is helpful to be familiar with surviving in the Nether both in Vanilla Minecraft and Better Nether.
Gameplay
Survival in the Nether
First things first remember the Nether actually has trees. It might seem obvious but it is important to know you can get wood tools by chopping down some trees that exist in certain biomes. You can also make some bowls and scrounge up mushrooms nearby to make mushroom soup. You'll be using this a lot to survive. So it may be worth it to actually grow mushrooms. It's worth noting blackstone is how you'll be making your stone tools in the Nether and you'll often find it in basalt deltas. Better Nether makes blackstone spawn quite often in various other places as well, so you won't have to worry too much about finding a basalt delta.
If you need torches, you may as well forget it unless you kill some wither skeletons who have a chance to drop coal. Logs don't burn into charcoal in the Nether, but at least some types of Nether wood acts as fuel. If you can score some iron or a bucket fuel will be very easy to take care of with all the lava around. Hoglins are not really worth fighting typically, but if you play your cards right you can kill them and they drop pork. You can use magma blocks and trapdoors to kill piglins and hoglins that invade your home in the Nether increasing your ability to protect yourself massively at home. Since you are immune to lava in dangerous situations you might find jumping into lava to avoid melee enemies is worth it to survive, however, know that the melee range of hoglins is very high.
Some Additional Nether Tips:
- If you are good at punching fireballs back at ghasts they'll be of very little concern.
- Nether Fortresses are a great source of loot. You shouldn't shy away if you can handle blazes/wither skeletons.
- If you are feeling insanely brave and know how to get rid of the brutes safely you can score the pigstep music disc before you leave the Nether as well as some iron, gold, and other such loot from bastions.
- Better Nether's new ores are very useful if you can manage to construct the correct tools to gather them.
- Ruby pickaxes mine obsidian very well and actually have Obsidian Breaker enchantment on by default.
- If surviving the Nether is too difficult a test, ask someone to break you out of the Nether from the overworld. In the meantime you can survive and wait for rescue.
Escaping the Nether
It's worth noting to escape the Nether there is actually various ways to get a portal. One way is to find a ruined portal and finish it with some obsidian you find. If you can make a diamond or ruby pickaxe you can easily get naturally generated obsidian thanks to the Better Nether mod. When you find a biome with obsidian, they'll be plenty for you to gather and use to escape. You can also barter with piglins which is the easiest way out if you have a lot of gold. It is very important to remember though that crying or weeping obsidian will not work. Regular obsidian and blue obsidian will both work.
Nether Fortresses have a chance to have diamond or obsidian loot but Better Nether adds a new type of fortress that has an entire room full of Obsidian along with diamonds in loot chests as well. Using one of these new fortresses with the proper amount of luck you can escape the Nether as soon as you start the game provided the fortress has lucky enough loot drops.
Gameplay In The Overworld
(Also known as Hydrophobia Simulator)
Congratulations for busting out of the Nether. You have one of the most powerful abilities to not be either poisoned or burned by lava which is very dangerous for most players. Only downside now is water everywhere and even rain is very dangerous to you. If you pick a desert or savanna you at least can avoid rain entirely. If you live in a biome with rain you can simply make sure there is good shelter around for you in your time of need.
If you really need to go into the ocean or rain it's very critical you get your hands on the water protection enchantment which is your only chance to get rid of this inconvenient negative. Be sure to use a bed and set your spawnpoint in the Overworld so you don't respawn in the Nether and have to escape again. It may be ideal marking your spawn location in the Nether and to build a clearly marked escape route to escape again. After all of this is taken into account, it's a fairly normal playthrough from now on in the overworld.
